DEXA (Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry)

At canning vale radiology, we offer DEXA (bone densitometry) and DEXA (body composition) studies.

Bone densitometry is routinely used to measure bone loss, estimate the fracture risk and tracking the treatment of osteoporosis (brittle bone disease) which can affect people over 70 years, post menopause or with underlying thyroid/ liver/ kidney disease.

Body composition study is used to identify the accurate body distribution of fat and is highly useful to work in hand with your trainer and dietitian to achieve your targets. Body composition scans are the ideal way to assess if your fitness programmes are working for you.

This is a low radiation, safe, simple, quick, non-invasive study for osteoporosis and assessing the total body composition.

No preparation required.

You may need to wait for 14days, if you had a recent barium examination, CT Contrast study or a radioisotope study.

Appointments are essential.

Note:

Please advise us if you are, or think you may be, pregnant.

Please bring your referral, Medicare and Pension Health Care Cards with any previous imaging relating to the region being scanned
