Ultrasound

Ultrasound examinations are safe, effective and most common investigations which do not involve any radiation.

At Canning Vale Radiology, we have well experienced sonographers who obtain the images with at most accuracy taking care of your comfort. Our onsite specialist radiologist would be available at all times for that personal touch.

We offer general abdominal, pelvic, musculoskeletal, obstetric and paediatric ultrasounds. We specialise in first trimester screening studies, Breast and Vascular imaging.

Urgent scans are our priority and would be addressed at the earliest.

Examinations and preparations:

ABDOMEN AND PELVIS:

Abdomen ultrasound:

6hours fast prior to examination, means nothing to eat, drink or smoke.

If you are on medications, you can have them with small amount of water.

Renal/ Pelvic/ Lower abdomen Ultrasound:

Full Bladder study- Empty your bladder 1.5 hrs before examination. Following this drink 1 litre of water prior to your appointment and do not empty your bladder.

Children/ patients with urinary retention should advice booking staff as your fluid intake may vary. (reduced fluid intake)

Transvaginal pelvic study may or may not be required after emptying bladder.

OBSTETRIC  STUDIES :

Ultrasound is a safe investigation at all stages of pregnancy.

Dating and first trimester studies:

First pregnancy study is to detect viability, number of foetuses and accurate dating.

Transabdominal study: Full Bladder scans *. Empty your bladder 1.5 hrs before examination. Following this drink 1 litre of water prior to your appointment and do not empty your bladder.

Transvaginal study may or may not be required after emptying bladder.

Nuchal Translucency/ First trimester screening studies:

Book around 12-13 weeks of gestation.

Transabdominal: Full Bladder scans*.

Transvaginal study may or may not be required after emptying bladder.

Morphology study:

Book around 19-20 weeks morphology study to look for baby’s development, morphology, assess placenta and volume of fluid around the baby.

Full bladder scans

Third Trimester studies:

Performed to assess fetal growth, monitor multiple pregnancy, placental position,  fluid volume around the baby and assess blood flow to the baby.

No preparation required.

MUSCULOSKELETAL, BREAST, THYROID, NECK, TESTICULAR ULTRASOUNDS, CAROTID AND PERIPHERAL ARTERIAL AND VENOUS DOPPLER:

No preparation required

Please wear loose comfortable clothing for easy access to the part to be imaged.

Please bring Previous Imaging.
